The Company’s Data Processing Center is enhanced at year-end by installing a second processor (IBM 3031) which supports the other processor (IBM 148) acquired in 1979. The Company understands the importance of technological development and decides to allocate growing investments aimed at mechanization of activities such as accounting and claims settlement. Unipol is the first Company to mechanize its agencies, through a direct and bidirectional link between headquarters and local offices.

Thus an experimental phase begins with the installation of mini computers connected with the headquarters data center at a few pilot agencies mainly in Emilia Romagna. This is the start of a process of mechanization of the agencies that within a few years will lead the entire agency network to be connected with the data center terminals.
