Unipol Group events for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

In order to mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Unipol Group and CUBO, with the support of the Group’s Equal Opportunities Commission, propose a very topical reflection on the issue that will consider the role of women in the world of work and give examples of proactive companies with real accounts of what can actually be done. The programme forms part of the 14th edition of the La Violenza Illustrata Festival, which will incorporate numerous events to celebrate 25 November. Two of these events are included in the programme.

The conference DONNE E LAVORO Aziende in rete contro la violenza (Women and Work, networking companies against violence) was held today, at the CUBO media library (Piazza Viera de Mello, 5) with the focus on ensuring that the issue of violence against women continues to be given prominence to raise awareness and encourage prevention. Chaired by journalist Monica D’Ascenzo, the meeting gave an opportunity to exchange views on best practices between companies, who can play an active part for both their employees and the social fabric. Contributions were made by Stefania Ascari, Member of the Italian Parliament and Justice Committee member, Lella Costa, Actress and Writer, Francesco Malaguti, Chairperson of Camst, Giorgia Ortu La Barbera, Scientific Director of the Progetto Libellula, Lella Palladino, Chairperson of D.i.Re Donne in Rete contro la Violenza (networking women against violence), Pierluigi Stefanini, Chairperson of the Unipol Group, Valeria Valente, Senator and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Investigation Committee on Femicide and Gender Violence, and Valeria Valotto, Deputy Chairperson of the Quid Social Enterprise.

Chairperson of the Unipol Group, Pierluigi Stefanini said “We decided to make a gesture today with a red bench to remind any woman who has suffered violence that she is not alone. We chose to do it at the company since companies are the places where most socialising takes place and where both men and women should always remember that respect for others lies at the heart of all human relations”.

The red bench is a symbol of the Progetto Libellula - the leading network of companies united to eliminate violence against women and gender discrimination, to which Unipol belongs - and was installed in the Piazza Vieira De Mello park at the centre of Unipol’s Bologna headquarters. “L’amore genera amore e non violenza”(love generates love, not violence) is written on the bench, along with the telephone number 1522 which is the public service number promoted by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Equal Opportunities Department, available 24 hours a day with operators trained to respond to requests for help and support by victims of violence and stalking.

There is also another event to be held on Monday 25 November 2019 at 9.00 p.m. in the “Enea Mazzoli” Unipol Auditorium (via Stalingrado, 37), L’ALTRA CARMEN Storia di un femminicidio (The other Carmen, story of a femicide); the show uses arias from Bizet’s opera and a passionate, overwhelming reinterpretation of the music and choreography in flamenco style to emphasise the dramatic, emotional aspects of Carmen, shown here as two-sided: on the one hand, a woman who can flout convention but is willing to compromise and on the other, a flighty, selfish seductress who strongly challenges the stronghold of patriarchal society.

It will be performed by Claudia Marchi mezzo-soprano, Alessandro Goldoni tenor, Rosa D’Alise soprano and Maurizio Leoni baritone, and encourages the public to consider that gender-based violence may not be the result of isolated incidents but of an ingrained victim-blaming mentality. Musical accompaniment by Paola Dal Verme on piano, Anton Bervoski on the violin, Josè Salguero for the flamenco music, Alberto Rodriguez on the guitar, Tommaso Sassatelli on percussion and dancers Rita Marchesini, Ondina Cassotta and Andrea Natoli.

The events are open to everyone with booking recommended on cubounipol.it

CUBO is the Unipol Group company museum designed as a culture sharing space. We present heritage, Unipol history and the social role of insurance using the language of culture and art since we know that culture is the main tool to use for development, inclusion and social dialogue.
