This is what emerged from the twelfth Report of the European Observatory on Security drawn up by Demos&Pi and the Unipolis Foundation.

Global insecurity represents Italians’ greatest fear in the current Phase 2 of the Covid‐19 emergency, accounting for 78% of the population in May 2020, down from 81% during Phase 1 (March) but higher than the figure of 75% in January (same value as in 2019).

On the other hand, about 60% of citizens are concerned about economic uncertainty, after the understandable peak (69%) recorded during Phase 1; this value is much higher than the value recorded in January 2020 (58%). On the other hand, crime‐related insecurity was down by 4% (32% in May 2020 compared to 36% in January, probably due to the prolonged quarantine).

In Phase 2 of the Covid‐19 emergency, 84% of Italians also stated that they were concerned about the Coronavirus (56% in February 2020) but this concern is less than it was in April (90%) and March (96%). Women are the most concerned (89%), with the fear also increasing if we consider the average age of the victims of the pandemic, from 45 up. Lastly, for 62% of those surveyed, the Coronavirus will have negative effects on future opportunities.

This is what emerged from the twelfth Report of the European Observatory on Security drawn up by Demos&Pi and the Unipolis Foundation which, in this edition, carried out four opinion polls exploring changes in the sense of insecurity experienced after the Covid‐19 pandemic exploded, and the social perception of the emergency.
