Unipol Group stands alongside the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR)

The Unipol Group stands alongside the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to provide basic medical and healthcare to thousands of Syrian refugees in Lebanon who are looking for a safe place as a result of the conflict that broke out in their country. Unipol has chosen to support UNHCR in these territories by providing refugees with life-saving medical assistance paying special attention to natural and caesarean births.

The Unipol Group’s commitment includes a 75% coverage, or 90% coverage in the most vulnerable cases, of the refugees’ hospitalisation costs and treatment provided within the hospital network.

Lebanon hosts over one million Syrian refugees out of a population of about four million people: it is the country with the highest concentration of refugees per capita in the world. For the UNHCR providing Syrian refugees with the necessary medical care is a priority, but access to appropriate health services remains extremely complicated. The partnership between Unipol and UNHCR is precisely aimed at saving the lives of people who need urgent medical assistance.

The collaboration between Unipol and UNHCR is part of a broader project in response to the appeal launched during the Summit of the United Nations for Refugees and Migrants, which was held in New York on 19 September, where world leaders were required to draw up a coordinated and timely response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

UNHCR has been in the forefront for 65 years as the leading organisation in the world, committed to saving lives, protecting the rights of 65 million refugees, evacuees and stateless people and building a better future for them.
