Over 480 candidates from all over Italy at the call for application promoted by the Unipolis Foundation

Historic buildings and empty churches, forgotten mountain lodges and farmhouses, abandoned industrial areas, closed public buildings, city corners and open spaces that return to life and are revived as places of culture and community: these are the challenges facing the 15 finalists in the “culturability” call for applications. They were chosen from over 480 candidates from all over Italy in the call promoted by the Unipolis Foundation to support the consolidation of the best regenerated Italian cultural centres, places where innovative cultural processes with social and civic impacts and new ways of working with local communities are being developed. A notably close, well-tended cultural infrastructure from which to start in the planning and construction of new ways to congregate in cities during this post-emergency phase.

The selection process was very complex due to the number, quality and vision of the participants. The list of winning candidates is as follows: Borgata Paraloup (Rittana – Cuneo), CasermArcheologica (Sansepolcro – Arezzo), Centrale Fies (Dro – Trento), Civico Trame (Lamezia Terme – Catanzaro), Ecomuseo Urbano Mare Memoria Viva (Palermo), Farm Cultural Park (Favara – Agrigento), Fondazione Made in Cloister (Naples), Il Cassero (Bologna), Laboratorio Urbano ExFadda (San Vito dei Normanni – Brindisi), Le Serre dei Giardini Margherita (Bologna), Lottozero (Prato), mare culturale urbano (Milan), Officine CAOS (Turin), TeatroLaCucina (Milan), Via Baltea Laboratori di Barriera (Turin).

Following this initial selection, the finalists will have the opportunity to take part in a camp next September. A Review Committee will identify 4 centres out of the 15 that will obtain access to financial aid and support that will last for up to a year and a half by way of three forms of assistance:

grants in the form of charitable donations for a maximum amount of €90 thousand per centre;

• financial aid in the form of vouchers for a maximum amount of €30 thousand per centre to be used for consultation, research and development, and training;

continuous coaching and support by a team of mentors for a maximum amount of €25 thousand per centre.

The support will be disbursed in three tranches in accordance with the targets reached and results obtained as agreed at the beginning of the process. The total budget of the call for applications, including contributions to the beneficiaries and costs for all the support activities, amounts to €600 thousand.

The 2020-22 edition of the call for applications is promoted by the Unipolis Foundation in association with a wide network of partners, visionaries and other experts who will be made available to the participants.
