The Group adopts an integrated offer strategy, providing more than 10 million customers with a full range of insurance and financial products placed through a distribution network of agencies greater than Italy and 300 bank branches as at 31 December 2012.
The parent company, Unipol Gruppo Finanziario S.p.A., is an investment holding and services company listed on the Milan Italian Stock Exchange since 1986. The majority shareholder with 50.75% of the ordinary share capital is Finsoe S.p.A., whose ownership in turn can be traced back to companies in the cooperative movement belonging to Legacoop.
In the insurance business, the Group operates primarily through its subsidiary UnipolSai Assicurazioni S.p.A., which is also listed on the Stock Exchange and was founded in early 2014 following the merger of three historic companies operating on the Italian market (Unipol Assicurazioni, Fondiaria-Sai and, Milano Assicurazioni and Unipol Assicurazioni) as well as Premafin, financial holding company of the former Fondiaria-Sai Group.
The Unipol Group is also active in direct motor-vehicle insurance (Linear Insurance), healthcare (UniSalute), and oversees the bancassurance channel thanks to the agreement with Unipol Banca and joint-ventures with primary Italian bank operators (Arca Assicurazioni and Arca Vita with Banca Popolare dell’Emilia Romagna and Banca Popolare di Sondrio, Popolare Vita with the Banco Popolare Group, BIM Vita with Banca Intermobiliare, and Incontra Assicurazioni in partnership with the Unicredit Group). Itand is also the third largest operator in the Serbian market through the indirect control of the company DDOR Novi Sad.
In the banking business, Unipol operates through a network of branches of Unipol Banca, whose multi-channel offer is dedicated primarily to retailers and small businesses, as well as through specialized divisions operating in the sectors of merchant banking, capital markets, payment systems and consumer credit.
In the real estate business, the Unipol Group is currently one of the main operators in Italy in terms of the amount of assets under management (amounting to almost €5bn) and features a team of professionals capable of performing not only asset and property management activities but also of promoting and coordinating property development and urban regeneration projects.
Through UnipolSai, the Group is also an important player in the Italian hotel industry (thanks to 20 structures managed by the subsidiary Atahotels in some of the main cities and most popuular tourist destinations), as well as in the agricultural sector, in which it operates through Tenute del Cerro (ex SaiAgricola), owner of approximately 4,300 hectares of land in central and northern Italy, known on a national level for the production of high quality wine.
In late 2012, the Unipol Group counted over 15,000 employees, divided between its offices in Bologna, Milan, Turin and, Florence, Rome and Naples, local organizations and bank branches throughout the country.
